Case dismissed. That's what a judge tells Imani Hughes after her boss drugs her, straps her down, and takes what he wants. So she stops asking the law for justice and starts collecting it herself: a stun gun in a parking garage, a cage in an abandoned warehouse, a rifle to keep the argument honest.
That's the first story. The rest follow the same terrible logic — men walk into rooms expecting to be in charge and leave rearranged. A burglar pins a boyfriend to a chair and makes him watch. A wife stages a home invasion so convincing that the police arrest the man she invited.
Two women pick a stranger up at a bar, cuff him, and dress him in a skirt. In 1888, Jack the Ripper turns out to be a butcher's daughter with a blade and a grudge. And on the thirty-fifth floor of a Miami apartment building, something with wings slides the balcony door open and tells a sleeping man he can either fight it or take it.
Nine stories of predation, captivity, and bad men learning what the bottom feels like — where the dread is the point, and nobody gets out unchanged.
