Paula was born to a mining family in Yorkshire, where she witnessed endemic abuse of women both in and out of marriage. Determined to avoid the fate of her mother and sisters she left home and joined in a marriage of convenience with a visiting Royal Navy sailor. She escaped her toxic homelife and her husband got a housekeeper to look after his home while at sea. Perhaps astonishingly, they are about to celebrate 40 years of marriage. Her first book "Netball" is based on the abuse she witnessed and suffered prior to leaving home, The "Sailor's Wife" series details some of her experiences after her unconventional marriage. She is currently working on a fourth book in the series, which covers her efforts to escape the control of the Royal Navy on the family life of its sailors.
