Chapter 1

Laris Ashe led her acquisition through the crowded city streets. The people parted before her as she walked, as if by magic, but more likely through intimidation. Laris Ashe had a reputation and the people of Yort respected her.

They respected her even if she was barely five feet tall. Even if she refused to consort with the well-respected nobles of the city. Even if she was a half-elf, an abomination in the eyes of many. Even if she was rumored to use forbidden magics.

No one mentioned why she was truly respected. No one wanted to even mention that in whispered tones in the darkest of alleys or the brightest of palaces.

Not a single member of the common folk took note of the woman trailing behind Laris. Not a single member of the king’s guards moved to stop her as she made her way down the clean cobblestone streets, a magical leash trailing from her hand to around the neck of the woman following Laris.

Slavery had been abolished in the kingdom generations ago, but if Laris Ashe wanted to own a slave in the middle of the king’s city, then Laris Ashe would be allowed to own a slave.

Vespera Springrose was a young human woman that easily stood a head taller than her mistress. Perhaps she stood even taller, but somehow Laris’s mere presence made her seem bigger. Vespera had pale skin and blood-red hair. Her face was generously kissed with freckles as was her exposed shoulders. She was dressed in a sleeveless blouse that exposed more skin than was modest, even in the open-minded avenues of Yort, and a skirt that barely came down to her knees.

It was the common costume of a woman who worked in the Red Ember Lounge.

The pair drew every eye on the streets. Not just because of Laris’s reputation but because of Vespera’s large tits.

They were fully covered, but her blouse was loose enough and open enough to show off her ample gifts.

Those very visible gifts were one of the reasons Laris had chosen her, but it was another, hidden gift, that had sealed the deal.

When Laris had walked into the Red Ember Lounge and demanded Vespera Springrose by name, the madam at the front desk didn’t question the powerful half-elf. Vespera was summoned from her duties in the back room and Laris placed the magical leash around her neck, leaving the house of ill-repute without a further word, but also leaving a generous purse of gold coins with the madam.

Vespera was afraid to say a single word on their journey through the city. She had briefly, surreptitiously, tugged on the leash with her hands, but the magical energy was unwelcome static to her fingers and no amount of pulling would break the thin silvery strand. If Laris had noticed her acquisition's efforts, she didn’t comment on it.

When they reached Laris’s house in a modest corner of the city, Vespera gasped at the huge structure. It stood out from every other building around it. Heavy stones, barred windows, and towering spires dominated its architecture. The huge double-sized iron-bound oak doors that stood against the street opened automatically at Laris’s arrival. They went in.

Vespera was certain they were going to their doom.

Once the doors boomed closed behind them, Vespera found she couldn’t maintain a silence any longer.

“Are you going to kill me?” she demanded of the half-elf, though her voice trembled and her fingers were shaking.

“What a ridiculous question,” said Laris. With a wave of her hand she dismissed the silver leash. It sparkled away into nothingness. “Why would I go to all the trouble of finding a woman of your talents just to kill you?”

“My talents?” Vespera laughed nervously, but at the same time was glad the magical leash was no longer around her neck, restraining her impulses. “I think you might have gotten me confused with my older sisters. They’re the whores. I just work in the kitchens for the prostitutes of the Red Ember. Neema can deep throat even the largest orc cock and Tula actually enjoys being fucked in the ass. I don’t do any of that. I just cook and clean.”

“I wasn’t talking about your…sexual talents,” said Laris with some disdain. “I was concerned with your innate talents.”

“My innate talents?” Vespera was confused.

“I’m an expert at spotting them,” said Laris. “How do you think I was able to create all of this?”

She gestured around the interior of the house.

Vespera looked around the space, truly seeing it for the first time.

The spacious interior foyer was gloomy except for the sunlight streaking through windows from twenty feet off the ground. From a few tiny recessed alcoves magical light shone weakly on the gray stone. The entire place had all the hominess of an ancient crypt.

Oddly, she didn’t feel isolated. Vespera sensed there were people—or creatures of some sort—inside the house, but none were visible.

The interior of Laris’s house was easily five times as large as the Red Ember. Never before had Vespera been inside a building that was so empty.

Vespera didn’t have an answer to Laris’s question.

“I don’t know,” she said honestly.

“You’re about to learn.”

Vespera eyed the heavy doors. While she was certain she could beat Laris in a race to the doors, she was also certain she wouldn’t be able to open even one of them.

“Why am I here?” she asked Laris.

The half-elf gave her an enigmatic smile and inclined her head. “Follow me.”

Laris moved across the giant foyer and through a doorway. Not wanting to be left alone in the imposing building, Vespera followed.

The place was a maze of dark stone, dark corners, and foreboding passageways. Vespera found it impossible to determine how long they walked for, but eventually Laris came to a set of stairs, one flight going up and one going down.

Much to Vespera’s disappointment, Laris chose the set going down.

It wasn’t an infinite spiral of narrow steps, but it felt like it. By the time Vespera reached the bottom, she felt the weight of the stone building above her along with a dizziness that left her confused.

As she stepped out into the room where the stairs ended, she took stock of the space.

It didn’t reassure her.

The room was perhaps fifty feet along each side, made of large, heavy gray stones held in place by crushing pressure from above. The arched ceiling soared twenty feet above her head. Weak, magical light leaked out from several of the alcoves that seemed to randomly fill the house. The air was chill and moist.

In the corner opposite where the stairs opened, there was a large black hole in the floor, carefully outlined in white stones a foot high. Each stone had a rune inscribed on the top surface.

None of this calmed Vespera’s rising tension.

Seeing that Laris was striding across the room, Vespera hurried to catch up to her.

“What is this place?” she asked the slightly built woman.

Laris didn’t answer her.

Instead, she let her cloak slip from her shoulder, untied her belt, opened up her dress and let her clothes fall to the floor.

Vespera wasn’t shocked by the other woman’s sudden nudity, but because she was doing it in this particular room that was both wet and chilly.

“Do you feel ill?” Vespera asked, rushing to catch up to where Laris was seemingly going to throw herself down the well. As they approached the hole it was obvious cool air was rushing upward out of the hole. The air was chilly enough to cause Laris’s small pink nipples to immediately become erect. Unable to help herself, she let her eyes run along the half-elf’s body. Beyond her almond-shaped eyes and slightly pointed ears, her skin was completely smooth and flawless, unlike Vespera’s skin that freckled at the slightest touch of sunlight.

Vespera was jealous of the other woman.

Dropping her eyes lower she admired Laris’s flat belly, well-formed limbs, and lingered on the half-elf’s triangular nearly white pubic hair. It was sparse and small. It made Vespera a little ashamed at her triangle of dark red hair that hid her cunt, but there was no way Laris could know that, could she?

Daring to step halfway in front of Laris, Vespera said, “You aren’t going to throw yourself down the well, are you?”

Moving lithely, Laris easily slipped around the taller woman. “You might want to step back.”

“Why?”

Laris didn’t answer her. Instead she started chanting words that Vespera heard but couldn’t comprehend. Much to Vespera’s alarm, the runes scratched into the top of the edge rocks started to glow.

She now took Laris’s advice and quickly back-pedaled, getting away to what seemed like a judicious distance. The movement of the cool air changed from a light breeze to a steady wind and then started to accelerate further. A low rumbling moan seemed to vibrate the very foundations of Laris’s manor, making Vespera feel it in her chest. In the midst of the growing disquiet, Vespera couldn’t help but stare at Laris’s ass. It was taut and narrow, almost athletic. Many men—and a few women as well—visiting the Red Ember would have been eager to hire Laris for a night of passion.

As much as they were scorned for their presumptive origin—a union between a human and a full-blooded elf—halfies were always in high demand at the Red Ember and fetched a premium price for their bodies.

“I should leave,” Vespera muttered to herself. She wanted to dash up the stairs and rush out of the manor, but she knew she would quickly find herself lost in the confusing path they had traveled through the house.

Plus she found herself rooted to the place she had taken not far from the well’s entrance.

When the creature all but exploded out of the well, Vespera shrieked in surprise.

Even though she knew she had gotten herself involved with—through no action of her own—a woman who was a powerful sorceress, Vespera was still horrified at the monster that appeared from the well.

It was all but impossible to describe. In the weak light all Vespera could see were long, squirming tentacles that seemingly connected to a massive body that was mostly hidden by the infinite amount of prehensile limbs flailing about. The creature’s skin was moist and dripping. The color varied from pure white to bright pink. Some of the tentacles ended in tapered points, some ended in sharp spikes, some ended in club-like knobs, and more than a few ended in obscene mouths from which issued forth unnatural gray tongues.

If Vespera knew that one of the ancient gods lived beneath the streets of Yort she never would have remained in the city for more than a minute.

As much as she wanted to run, she found that she couldn’t, not because she was magically held in place, but because she was fascinated at what she saw.

At first she thought that maybe Laris had summoned up the monster to use it as an avatar of destruction or perhaps as a source of magical components for some spell or potion.

Instead, Laris knelt before the creature, spread her arms wide, looked up at the obscene horror, and cried out, “I seek to renew our partnership, Kharax Trelgrarach Bobyar.”

“The fuck?” Vespera exclaimed despite the situation.

More surprising was the reply that Kharax Trelgrarach Bobyar gave Laris.

One of the larger tentacles shot out and stopped just short of the kneeling half-elf. The appendage was easily as large around as a whiskey barrel. The end split open into an appalling mimicry of a human mouth: teeth, tongue, lips, and all.

“Will you again pay the price?”

The words rumbled through the dungeon that Laris had brought her to.

“Willingly,” the half-elf answered.

The huge tongue housed inside the equally huge tentacle-mouth, extended forward and licked Laris’s body in one long stroke, from her face down to the apex of her legs.

The large, muscular organ lingered there a moment, eliciting a soft moan from Laris as she spread her legs wider.

“Gods preserve m
