Chapter 0- Break up

As the door opened, the dark and murky room was greeted with a fresh wave of sunlight and air.

The only resident of the apartment flat shielded his face, having sunlight striking him harshly.

“Ugh, man! It was a curse letting you know my passcode.” The boy grumbled as he saw his friend entering his room while carrying a roof freshener and some meds.

The said friend sprayed the room freshener like he entered some kind of toxic lab, and without the spray, it was nearly impossible to stay within the walls.

“Goddamn, what’s with the smell of ramen and honey? What kind of shit mix are you consuming these days?!” The short brown-haired boy sat down after making some space on the couch and looked at the person, once a handsome guy, now looking nothing more than a homeless hippy.

“No one invited you, Harry.” The said hippy grumbled before he pulled another slice of pizza and roughly stuffed it inside his mouth.

The other one, named Harry, looked at his friend before signing, “Seriously dude? Just a break up it all took for you to get detached from the world and play emo? I mean, it wasn’t the first time you had a break-up, Luke.”

Luke scoffed, “It’s not just break up, man, it was all too fucked up back home. It was getting hectic so I decided to take a break.” Luke responded as he focused back on his game.

Harry cringed upon seeing what Luke was playing, “You really are playing some otome now? At least go for some RPG or something.”

Luke heaved a sigh, “Tried and finished most of it. This one is slightly different and annoying. The number of characters it offers, without letting them become monotonous, is intriguing.”

Harry shook his head, “But still dude? It’s basically all romance in the game. Are you that desperate?”

Luke smirked, “Couldn’t find love in real life, so satiating fantasies through fiction type of shit.”

Harry chuckled before asking, “Are you coming with me for the reunion?”

Luke raised his brows before pausing the game and asking, “This sudden reunion?”

Harry looked exasperated, “How can you forget, man? Miss Milli is retiring today.”

Luke’s eyes widened before he turned his eyes toward the calendar...and found the months hadn’t switched.

He took his phone and looked at the date, and indeed today was the day.

Luke looked at the game...he was just about to reach the finish. But well, not like he was playing for the last time, and looking at Harry, he knew if he didn’t get up now, a mini battle arc might begin.

Luke got up and said, “Wait for me. It will take twenty minutes.”

Harry grumbled before he laid down over the bundle of clothes and tissue paper lying on the couch.

Wait...tissue papers?!

—----**-------

After about half an hour, Luke came out of his room, his beard shaved, hair combed, and instead of oversized clothes, he wore a formal suit now.

“Man, talk about transformation.” Harry couldn’t help but compliment as he looked at the hippy who now seemed a little presentable.

They soon left the apartment and headed toward the venue where the gathering was arranged. It wasn’t very far away, that’s why they reached before time.

“Hey, Luke. Long time, mate.” There were many who recognized Luke, given he was on the rugby team and someone who had friends in each section.

He wasn’t extremely popular, but from each group, at least one could recognize him.

“Hey, guy. How is it going, Eric?” Luke then got busy chatting with others, and most of them were asking where he was and all.

Just before high school graduation, Luka disappeared, and now, six months later, he showed his face.

Many people knew the reason and that was his break up. However, naturally, no one mentioned it.

Until....

“Monica is here.” Someone from the group said, and everyone turned towards the entrance from where a lovely black-haired girl entered...with a guy beside her.

Luke didn’t turn towards her and just continued to enjoy his drink. Harry, who was just beside him, said, “Goddamn, she has turned hot after breaking up with you.”

Luke dryly smiled, “Thanks for adding the last part.”

Harry smiled, and while patting his back, he said, “Anytime, mate.”

People began murmuring and gathering around the girl. Monica was currently dating some hotshot from college. Naturally, a beautiful girl and a handsome man would attract others’ attention.

However, what they failed to notice was Monica’s fleeting gaze on Luke.

Her smile froze whenever she turned her eyes to him and found him completely ignoring her.

It wasn’t that Luke didn’t feel her looking at him, but he was just too tired with all this to care about her.

Fortunately, soon their teacher arrived and everyone’s attention turned towards her.

Not so long after the celebration began, and everyone started boasting about the universities they got, Luka left the venue.

He texted Harry that he was returning home since the atmosphere of the inside was too suffocating.

‘Forget it, I will meet the teacher some other time...’

Crushing the remnant of the cigarette under his foot, Luka advanced towards the street, hoping to get a bus back home.

He was just standing there, looking at his phone, when suddenly he heard a familiar voice from behind,

“Luke?”

Luke didn’t have to turn to know who it was, so he just turned to his left, intending to walk away when suddenly she ran towards him, “Wait! Please.”

Luke rolled his eyes, “Don’t you have a boyfriend now? Why are you chasing after your ex?”

His harsh words made the girl flinch.

Seriously, the way she lowers her eyes and bites her lips makes his heart accelerate. But unlike before, he now can control his emotions and retain an indifferent front.

Very timidly she said, “I wanted to tell you...why I broke up with you.”

Luke heaved a long sigh, exposing how unwilling he was, but still Monica continued,

“It was because...I realized the love you carry for me...I knew I won’t ever be able to reciprocate your feelings. I felt I don’t dese-”

“That you don’t deserve me. And that I deserve someone better, so to not make me sad, you broke off, right? I have heard that so many times that now I don’t need to know the reason behind breakups.”

Monica lowered her eyes, as she slowly muttered, “But it’s true Luke....I knew I would hurt you someday-”

“So you moved up the event, I guess?”

Monica bit her lower lip and with teary eyes, she asked, “Can you forgive me? Please? We still can be friends....”

Luke chuckled which soon turned into laughter.

This was so...cliche!

“Look, Monica, it’s not necessary for you to try and be kind and good to everyone. I have accepted the fact that you don’t deserve me, so let’s end this right here. Bye.”

Luke was seriously tired and frustrated with this conversation.....why did she have to strike up a conversation with him in the first place? Luke never bothered her after the breakup, and once he decided that it was over, he never cared about how and why they broke up.

*HONK* *HONK*

‘Does she have no life? Why come all the way to talk about the past?’

*HONK* *HONK*

‘You deserve better, eh? Why not? That’s the first time I have heard that lame a** excuse ‘

*HONK* *HONK*

Maybe it was because he was too occupied with his thoughts; he never noticed the truck coming in his direction.

And when he looked up,

‘Truck-sama?’

Luke tilted his head in confusion, unsure how a truck ended up in an alley, but his curiosity was never answered.

**DHAK**

At the age of eighteen, Luke died in a truck accident.

Chapter 1- The Villainess

The concept of reincarnation was not new to Luke. He has read and played games in which reincarnation was the most basic theme.

However, just like anyone else, he didn’t think he would be experiencing reincarnation for real at some point

The rumors of being isekai-d after getting hit by a truck weren’t fake. Take Luke for an example.

When he died, he was a tall guy of about 6’3 and a rugged build, given he was quite into sports. But now, looking at himself in the mirror, all Luke could gaze at was a teenager with golden blond hair and oceanic blue eyes.

Gone were the tanned skin and wide shoulders. All he could look at was lean physique and pristine white skin.

He had been staring at himself in the mirror for the past ten or so minutes and did everything to wake himself up if he was in a dream. However, even after the nth attempt, he couldn’t shake himself off his sleep.

As such, only one conclusion remains.

‘I have reincarnated...and no one else but as a character of ‘Star Destiny.’’

Star Destiny was the same game Luke was playing before his friend came knocking on his door to tell him about the reunion. The otome game with a female protagonist and action along with romance as its main genre.

This world was different from Earth since there were things like magic and swords. Unlike the world he comes from, this world works on a Monarchical system and there are things like monsters and dungeons in this world.

Truth be told, it was a dream for every isekai fan to be born into a world like this. To gain blessings, fight monsters, and build their own harem. However, Luke couldn’t think of such things.

After all, neither he was the protagonist nor was he overpowered.

He was the Second Prince of the Kingdom—Austin von Thalorian—where this academy was built, and also, one of the potential male targets of the heroine.

Yes, the protagonist has a reverse harem, and now, Luke could become a part of that harem.

‘Like hell!’ Luke has no intention of joining that little gang and fawn over the dramatic protagonist.

The protagonist is a trouble magnet and the type of girl who leaves her opponent alive, just because everyone deserves a second chance kind of sh*t.

In the first place, it sounded so creepy to be a part of a group that has no other role than to flirt with a girl and get jealous of other harem members. It wasn’t that Luke was prejudiced towards reverse harem, he hates polygamy as a whole.

Just stick to one goddamn partner if you love them!

Luke only played this game because it had interesting characters(not the harem members) and the fight scenes were badass. However, little did he think that he would reincarnate into the same game he was playing.

‘I didn’t even finish it...’ Luke was around that preparation arc before the final battle. So he somehow knows all the locations of the artifacts and legendary items. And also, he has some information about the final boss, which surely would be quite helpful.

‘But still...I have mediocre skill and not much considerable potential...’ Sure, there were some merits of being the Prince; however, as a person, he wasn’t strong enough to even come in the top ten.

Luke sat down on the bed and thought closely.

He didn’t have any idea at what point he had reincarnated and how much time remained before the graduation—around that time the final battle occurred—that’s why his current priority lies in knowing about the world around him.

**KNOCK**

Hearing the knock, Luke(Austin) made his way toward the door and asked, “Who is it?”

“It’s me, master, Sebastian.”

Hearing that voice, Luke took a deep breath. He doesn’t have Austin’s memories and facing this man under these circumstances would be disastrous.

“Ah, I am changing. What is it?” He asked, making some excuses. He couldn’t meet Sebastian since the man was too observant and had known Austin since his childhood.

“The trial is about to begin in half an hour and the headmaster has summoned you.”

Trials? Trials!

“Ah, okay. Umm, has anyone decided to fight from the other side?” Just to be on the safe side, Austin added.

“No, young master. No one is willing to fight for Lady Valerie.”

His suspicion was confirmed, “Okay, you can go. I will be there.”

Once the butler left Austin heaved a sigh. He knew it.

The trials of villainess—Valerie Hawthorne—the villainess of the story and someone who would prove to be one of the biggest obstacles for the Protagonist.

Not only is she strong but exceptionally beautiful as well. A sharp tongue and a strict personality. And because of her tragic end, many people, including Luke, like her more than the Protagonist.

She has a bad past and an unfortunate future. In all honesty, she suffers more than the protagonist ever had. And in the end, her death was very cruel.

Many of the gamers thought she deserved it after how much she caused the protagonist trouble, but Luke held a different opinion.

Valerie was snatched from her love by the protagonist. Naturally, anyone would turn into a villain.

Truth be told, it was Valerie with whom Luke could sympathize.

And now, she is getting framed for the crime of breaking the Spirit Shard—a weapon connected with one’s soul—of the main heroine.

This trial is the beginning of Valerie’s downfall and he, Austin, would play a massive role in this event.

Looking at himself in the mirror, Luke couldn’t help but scoff, “What a scumbag I am to support a different woman while my fiancée is in trouble...”

Valerie is Austin’s fiancée, and not only Austin takes the Protagonist’s side today, but he also insults Valerie in front of everyone before breaking off the engagement.

Yes, an actual scumbag

But now that Luke has taken over,

‘Like hell, I would let the canon repeat.’

Chapter 2- Trial(1)

Austin didn’t have any idea whether he would regain his memories or not. He was still the same Luke who belonged to a planet called Earth and died after being hit by a truck.

Thanks to the fact that he pays attention to the details provided in the game—under the assumption that the dialogues and details would somehow help him in the future—he could act like the Prince for now.

He was currently in the second year of the academy, with eighteen months remaining before graduation. Around that time the main villain would show up.

However, the current arc would pave the downfall of the villainess named Valerie

Yesterday, the Protagonist and Valerie got into a fight. Valerie is the strongest Aurakin in the academy.

Aurakin is just like a knight or warrior, however, in place of normal weapons, the students of this academy and around ten percent of the population can use a special type of tool called Spirit Shard.

Valerie is strong, and leagues above the Protagonist as of now. As such, when the confrontation occurred and the Protagonist lifted her weapon in a fit of rage, Valeria protected herself and broke the Protagonist’s Spirit Shard.

Breaking someone’s Spirit Shard while you are a student is outright illegal and Valerie broke the law.

Naturally, all the harem members were displeased with the Villainess. And Austin, the man who should have stood by his fiancée’s side at times like these, also supported the other party.

And not only that, Austin even humiliated her and broke off the engagement.

Valerie then gets criticised by other students, the teachers also ignore her, and at some point, a harem member of the Protagonist even framed her—resulting in her expulsion. Then, there was no mention of her for a long time, and when she appeared, Valerie was one of the Generals of the main boss.

Through any route Luke picked, he couldn’t stop Valerie from meeting such a miserable fate.

He actually sympathizes with her because she did her best to maintain her relationship with the man she adores, but...

“Young Master? Are you unwell?” Hearing Sebastian’s voice, Austin was shook off his daze before he said,

“No, I am quite fine. Anyway, have you written what I just told you?” The white-haired man nodded before Austin looked at the notepad and gave a satisfied nod.

Just as he picked up the notepad, the butler couldn’t help but ask, “Are you sure about this master? Expressing the event in such details might put Lady Valerie into more trouble.”

One could sense that the old man pitied the girl and it was natural. Valerie and Austin were childhood friends so the old man has seen her growing up as well.

After entering the academy, Austin and Valerie drifted apart, but for the butler, they both were still the same.

Austin sighed, “Whatever I will do today, is for the best.”

Saying so the blond Prince walked out of the room and headed towards the Principal’s office, where the others were waiting.

It was already evening and there weren’t many students around. However, everyone was aware of the incident regarding Valerie that’s why students were glancing and whispering about Austin as well.

The short walk from the dormitory to the main building came to an end, and Austin was standing right before the Headmaster’s office.

‘Let’s do this.’

**KNOCK**

Just as he knocked, the door was opened from the other side, revealing the face of a familiar teacher who was a named character in the game.

After all, he is also a potential love interest.

“Professor Morkel.” Austin greeted the man with a nod before stepping inside the office

There were quite many people inside, including the Headmaster, Vice-headmaster, and Austin’s homeroom teacher.

On the left side, surrounded by four males, was a single pink-haired girl who looked at Austin with a soft smile.

The main heroine of this world—Rhea.

Austin gave her a short nod before his eyes turned towards the person who stood all alone and silent.

Her curly violet hair was neatly braided. Her sharp violet eyes were drawn to the ground. High nose, full red lips, and a perfectly shaped body. She possessed a beauty worth getting obsessed over.

Austin glanced at both girls and couldn’t understand that even based on beauty, how Austin could choose the pink head over such a beautiful girl.

Valerie’s head was leaning down and in her hand, there was a small wooden box which she held carefully.

Austin knew what was inside the box. Their engagement ring.

Valerie knows that today, Austin will annul the engagement.

“We were waiting for you, Austin.” The headmaster, Lucas Deraimore, stated.

The old man say in his seat with his back straight and eyes carrying no particular emotion.

Those who know the man closely could tell that he was upset about the fact that within the boundaries of the academy, such a great tragedy transpired.

Austin gave him a firm nod before stepping forward.

“Now that we all have gathered, I would like to start the hearing.” Morkel began as he stood beside Austin and continued,

“Yesterday, in the common hall, a major incident transpired in which student Rhea and student Valerie were involved. Just like everyone, student Rhea went there with her friends to enjoy a peaceful dinner, when suddenly student Rhea tripped and the tea in her hand spilled on student Valarie’s gown.”

Taking a pause and after ensuring that everyone’s attention was on him, the bespectacled man added, “After that, student Valerie began bad-mouthing student Rhea, making fun of the fact that she was an orphan and the absence of her parents had turned student Rhea into a savage being.”

No one disagreed with it since it was true and everyone heard Valerie shouting at Rhea yesterday.

Just remembering it made the pink-haired girl’s eyes well up with tears.

The tall boy behind her rested his hands on Rhea’s shoulders and consoled her, “It’s okay Rhea, she will be punished for what she has done,” As the giant boy spoke those words, he glared at Valerie.

However, the violet-haired didn’t notice the glare...more like ever since she entered the office; her head was down, and she seemed listless.

Morkel added, “In retaliation, student Rhea just summoned her Soul Shard...and it snapped when Student Valerie attacked her with the clear intention of damaging her Shard.”

Standing before the Headmaster, Morkel concluded, “In my opinion, it was all too well planned by student Valerie. She first provoked Rhea and when student Rhea reacted, she took the opportunity to end her life! And for that crime, I beg the headmaster to take the necessary action.”

On a strong note, he finished.

After that, the room falls under silence, as the older one sitting behind the desk turns towards the blond and says,

“Is there anything you want to add, Austin?”

Everyone in the room, including Valerie, thought that Austin would surely say something to insult Valerie. He had the right opportunity, and this time, even Rhea won’t stop him.

However, under everyone’s astonished gazes, Austin stood before Valerie and held her face

The warmth of his hands and the fact he behaved so tenderly with her made Valerie’s eyes widen.

“Tell me something,” Austin began, “Did you intend to kill Rhea?”

Morkel frowned; however, before he could have said anything, the headmaster raised his hand and stopped him.

Everyone was dumbfounded by the sudden action but more than anyone, Valerie was completely speechless by his action.

However, under his warm gaze, she couldn’t stop herself from saying the truth, “No...”.

Chapter 3- Trial(2)

How long has it been...since he touched her? Valerie didn’t know...

The same way he looked at her...that gaze didn’t contain anger or disgust. He was concerned.

For her?

How...is that possible?

Valerie has hurt the person Austin likes...almost killed her...and he is...looking out for her.

She believed this was either a dream or a false hope he was giving to make her feel worse.

She has lost every hope to get back with the man she ever allowed herself to adore. That’s why, she took off the only connection which gave their relationship a name.

Their engagement ring.

In those few moments when he held her face, numerous possibilities flashed through her mind...however, none of them were positive.

But a very flickering and dim flame was still ignited in the corner of her mind...what if, her lord takes stand for her here? What if, when the world is against her, he shields her from them?

No...that would be too much. Just the very fact he looked at her so gently after so long was hefty enough for her to shed some tears of joy.

This much was enough. She shouldn’t hope for more.

...

All Austin could see in her eyes was hopelessness and pain. She was suffering from the betrayal and grief Austin bestowed upon her.

Heaving a sigh, he stepped back and turned towards the vice-principal,

“Sir Hayden, can I ask you to use your Soul Shard to draw an Absolute Truth circle around me?”

The statement made many people around them surprised, as Morkel said,

“You don’t need to go to such lengths, Austin. Just tell everything that happened.”

Austin looked at the man before informing him, “What I am about to say is true but might not be liked by everyone present here. So to save ourselves from needless waste of time, arguing over who is right and who is not, let Professor Hayden use his skill?”

He stated the best option to provide the credibility of the evidence he was about to show them.

Hayden glanced at the Headmaster before stepping forward and summoning his Soul Shard in the form of a lance.

He planted the butt of the Shard on the ground just a few inches before Austin and started to go around him—creating a visible and shining circle around the blond student.

Stepping back, Hayden announced, “Now, if you say the truth, the circle will hold the silver shade. And if you lie, we will know.”

Austin gave a thankful nod to the man before looking at the Headmaster,

“Sir, I intend to recount every word exchanged during that brief confrontation in full detail. If Valerie or Rhea believes I have misspoken or included anything inaccurately in my account, please feel free to interrupt me without hesitation.”

Neither of them said anything but all Austin needed was the Headmaster’s nod, which he received.

He took out the document he prepared before coming here, with Sebastian’s help.

“At thirty minutes past five, Rhea, along with Rudolph and Parkinson, entered the common hall. After taking several dishes from the counter, the three of them began advancing towards a vacant table. While Rudolph and Parkinson were carrying the heavy trays, Rhea was only allowed to carry the light tray on which three tea cups were placed.”

Looking up, he glanced at the group on his left before asking, “Is there anything I am missing here?”

There was a surprise on Rhea’s face as she asked, “How do you know such details...you weren’t with us?”

Austin heaved a sigh, “That doesn’t concern now, does it? Just tell me if I am right or not?”

“Why are you being so rude, Austin?” Parkinson spat, his face growing dark in displeasure.

“I assume there is nothing rude in what he asked, Student Park.” The Headmaster’s voice brought a sudden pause to the growing tension.

Rhea exhaled an audible breath before nodding, “Yes, it’s true. Every bit of it.”

Austin nodded before he turned his head towards the Headmaster, “Then suddenly while student Rhea was about to cross the seat where Valerie sat, she tripped—possibly accidentally—and spilled the tea on her gown.”

“What do you mean, possibly? I accidentally tripped.” Rhea frowned; she couldn’t understand why Austin was siding with that woman all of a sudden.

Austin remained indifferent, “We will see about it. But for now, you spilled the tea on her and Valerie stood up furiously and began wiping her dress. While she did so she said many things, among which she said something that hurt student Rhea awfully.”

Now here, Austin took a pause and looked intently at the paper; not wanting to miss a single word,

“’Have your parents not taught you any manners, you savage fool?!’” He adopted a higher tone to let the emotion reflect in his voice.

Rhea clenched her teeth before adding, “Yes, she said the exact same thing.”

Austin turned towards Valerie, and with her eyes on the ground, she gave a brief nod of affirmation.

Austin returned his gaze back to the Headmaster before adding, “So yes, she said that, and Rhea, in a fit of anger, summoned her Soul Shard. In the process—albeit unintentionally—she ended up tearing the side of her gown.”

Leaving a sigh, he said, “And because of that, Valerie summoned her own soul shard, and without adjusting the strength, she attacked Rhea...and we all know the conclusion.”

“What a joke! Just because one of her thousands of dresses got damaged, she attacked Rhea.” Morkel stepped forward,

“You see now, headmaster? Student Valerie is unstable in the head-!!” Morkel stopped talking as suddenly he felt a chilly gaze staring at him.

Morkel frowned seeing Austin’s gaze before he heard him saying, “Be very careful of what you say, Morkel. Before a student of this academy, I am her fiancé. I will take any insult to her personally. So be very careful.”

The tension grew in the room and not only Morkel but Parkinson and Rudolph were showing displeasure to the fact that someone was defending Valerie.

Austin was protecting her.

Chapter 4- Trial(3)

Fiancée. He called her, his fiancée. Not ‘woman’ or ‘You!’ but...

Tears welled in her eyes as she stared at his wide back; numerous emotions were reflected in her tears as she bit her lips to refrain from sobbing.

Morkel’s jaw was moving, signifying that the guy was grinding his teeth furiously. Unintentionally he even released his aura, making Hayden frown, as he warned,

“Professor Morkel.”

The bespectacled man heaved a sigh before giving a slight bow and saying,

“I apologize for the display, Sir Hayden, but the student has forgotten the fact that within the boundaries of this academy, every student is equal. So student Austin needs to be reminded that until he is studying here, he has to respect his professors.”

Austin scoffed but didn’t say anything against that. Returning his attention to the supreme authority, he said,

“I apologize if I said something rude, but in my opinion, everyone has the right to present their views before any conclusion can be drawn. And if Professor Morkel threatens someone close to me because I said something, then it’s natural for me to react, sir.”

Austin justified himself, and this time, the Headmaster supported him, “Yes, I can understand. But Austin, I recommend you tame your aura.”

Austin was...genuinely surprised. He never realized that he released his aura. He doesn’t even know how it feels to have magic.

Naturally, he avoided showing any surprise and after giving a nod of affirmation, he continued.

“So yes, after her gown was damaged, Valerie reacted, and she had all the reason to do so.”

This time Rudolph interjected, “How does that work? Have you lost your mind, Austin? Can a dress make someone react so violently?”

The opinion was shared by every single person except for Valerie and Austin in the room.

Their homeroom teacher, Cassie, also nodded, “Yes, Austin. If it had been somewhere appropriate her reaction might have been justified. But Rhea only tore the side of her dress.”

Even the headmaster gave a nod to show that he was in support of the statement.

Parkinson smirked, ‘Let’s see how you defend that bitch now!’

Austin heaved a sigh and turned towards the person who asked him the question.

Austin’s eyes drifted toward the dagger which Rudolph holstered at the side of his waist.

Pointing at it, he asked, “I remember you got that dagger from your father as a symbol of courage and determination when you hunted a boar for the first time.”

Rudolph’s chest swelled with pride, “Indeed.”

Rhea frowned, unsure why the argument went in that direction, but naturally, to respect the Headmaster’s words, she remained silent.

Austin crossed his arms on his chest, and asked, “What if someone dares to damage that dagger-”

“I will kill them. Without hesitation or any fear of consequences.” It was a bold statement from the teenager, considering his homeroom teacher, the vice-headmaster and the headmaster himself were present in the room

However, considering how much Rudolph respected his father, such a reaction was to be expected.

Hayden was about to say something, but the Headmaster stopped him, knowing that Austin wanted the other one to retain the aggression.

A very small smile formed on Austin’s lips as he said, “Just like that dagger is important to you, that gown is important to Valerie as well....because it was given by the person she adores the most.”

Everyone was perplexed; meanwhile, Rhea’s eyes widened in shock since she never thought that Valerie reacted because of her fondness for the apparel she wore.

Turning towards the Headmaster, Austin added, “That gown was gifted by me and since yesterday marks the second anniversary of our engagement, sir, Valerie wore that dress to please me. It’s another fact that I never went to meet her and disrespected her sentiments.”

Near the end his voice turned a little low, showing the regret he carried for ignoring his fiancée.

Valerie’s face was tainted with tears—a sight that might have caused several students to faint in shock.

The cold and strict beauty can shed tears and show such a pitiful sight? Unbelievable.

Heaving a sigh, the blond Prince concluded, “From what I could see, sir, Valerie acted on impulse, but she never intended to cause such damage to Rhea. And about her comment regarding Rhea’s parents—”

Austin turned towards the pinkhead before lowering his head, “Then I apologize in her stead.”

Even Rudolph wasn’t able to maintain his frown seeing the Prince lowering his head and for whom? The same fiancée whom he has ignored all his life?

Rhea was embarrassed as she hurriedly said, “Please lift your head, Austin. I wasn’t completely aware of the situation so I should be apologizing.”

Morkel frowned; this was not what was supposed to happen. He wanted the insane bitch to get punished, not Rhea actually lowering her head!

However, before he or anyone else could have said nothing, the Headmaster finally stood up—garnering everyone’s attention.

With his hands crossed behind his back, the old man said, “After hearing the whole thing and realizing under what circumstances the two students acted, I have concluded that student Valerie will indeed be punished.”

Austin frowned, however, he didn’t interrupt the man from continuing,

“However, considering Student Rhea was also in the wrong I won’t charge Valerie with the same punishment which she should have been.”

Turning his gaze towards the violet-haired teenager, the older one said, “For the next two weeks, you need to spend an extra hour with the disciplinary chief and do whatever she tells you. It will help you realize the consequences of your impulsive decisions.”

Valerie, now in a much better mood than how she came in, instantly lowered her head and accepted the punishment.

Then the old man turned towards Rhea and said, “Rhea, you will have to give an extra hour to our librarian, who will help you understand the meaning of tolerance and composure. He will teach you to control your anger.”

“...I understand, sir.” Rhea also bowed and accepted her punishment.

Then suddenly Parkinson jumped in, “Wait...are you just glossing over the fact that Rhea’s soul was damaged?!”

It was true; Soul Shard is the extension of one’s soul and Valerie snapped it into two.

Along with lowered life expectancy, Rhea would face several more side effects of such damage.

The Headmaster heaved a sigh before saying, “I have already informed the church; they will come and look at her case tomorrow.”

Parkinson frowned—not happy with such leniency. However, before he could have said anything, Morkel pulled him back and grimly shook his head.

The teenager growled before he pursed his lips and glared at Austin.

If only he hadn’t intervened...

Chapter 5- Apology

The trials were over, and the results were just as he anticipated.

Canonically, Valerie would have been suspended from attending classes for three months and the news of engagement annulment would have made her a laughing stock back home. Not to talk about, her father had to pay a hefty sum as compensation.

Those moments she spends back at home, all alone, change her personality. She yearned for Austin and got betrayed by him. However, even after annulment she never stopped loving him. Even when she returned as a Parasyte General, she just desired to become one with Austin.

... but all Valerie received was betrayal again.

The protagonist, Rhea, couldn’t defeat Valerie head-on, so she used Austin to lure her...before stabbing Valerie in her back.

Such an unfortunate fate and all because an idiot failed to notice the feelings of his fiancée.

The headmaster asked Morkel to stay and told the others to leave.

Austin, along with others, walked out of the office at once.

The blond Prince could feel the shy gaze of his fiancée on his back. It seems she couldn’t bring herself to walk beside him.

‘Haa...what an adorable girl...’

Austin was about to ask Valerie something when suddenly Rhea asked, “Austin...can you accompany me for a bit? I want to talk to you.”

Hearing that, Rudolph and Parkinson’s faces darkened. Even without looking at her, Austin could tell that Valerie’s expression shifted.

Rhea looked serious and Austin could guess what she had to say. However,

“Let’s chat tomorrow. I want to stay with Valerie for the time being.” As he said, Austin held Valerie’s hand and urged her to stand beside him.

The violet-haired looked at him with her sharp eyes turning round in astonishment.

Austin glanced at her and instantly looked away. The way she was looking up at him was too damn adorable.

‘Gah...control Luke...you can’t pet the adorable creature here...control....’

Rhea glanced at their connected hands, a frown dancing on her forehead before she nodded and wordlessly walked away.

Parkinson immediately followed her while Rudolph remained standing.

With his eyes narrowed, he said, “What happened to you? You never spoke so indifferently with Rhea before.”

Austin sighed, a little surprised that the big man cares about things like emotions and sentiments, before he said, “Look Rudolph, I was just stating the fact without showing any partiality. If it seems rude, then you should say sorry.”

Rudolph nodded, “Okay sorry. See you later.”

Saying so, the taller one walked away, leaving a dumbfounded Valerie behind. She couldn’t understand what just happened so she looked back at her lord.

Austin smirked; easy to manipulate that guy is.

He looked at the lovely princess beside him—urging her to lower her head immediately—before asking, “Should we walk around a bit?”

Naturally, she didn’t disagree.

The two of them left the main building and Austin led the girl to the garden on the front side of the campus. He was not aware of things located in the academy, so he just wandered mindlessly with Valerie by his side.

They were no longer holding hands as Austin kept his hands hidden inside his pocket and walked a few steps ahead of his fiancée.

“Why didn’t you stand up for yourself back there?” Austin asked, prompting her to raise her head and look at him.

Valerie then slowly lowered her eyes and muttered, “I...was wrong, and by remaining silent, I was accepting my mistake.”

Austin slowed his pace until he was beside her before asking her with a smile, “So you regret reacting when she damaged the dress I gifted you?”

“Never...!” Her voice pitched a bit high, but soon she calmed down and relayed her honest thoughts,

“I...would react the same if someone tried to damage what’s precious to me. However, I should have been careful when attacking her.”

Seeing her downcast gaze and her fragile self, a sense of protectiveness was born in his heart for this girl.

He got to know this girl just an hour ago, yet, her situation and pitiful self made his heart melt.

“I was there, Valerie.” Austin began, his eyes now looking at the darkening sky.

Valerie looked at his charming face as she heard him saying, “I was there all along...when you entered the common hall to the point when the fight broke out. I saw everything.”

Taking a pause and letting a weary sigh seep through his lips, he added, “Initially I was angry that you attacked Rhea. She could have lost her life...but then last night I found a picture album of ours that made me remember several things.”

Although he was making up things, Austin made sure that he had a photo album with Valerie.

“The person who became my first friend despite my worth and status in the royal family. Someone who never judged me for my abilities but looked at my true self. Someone who encouraged me to move forward and healed my wounds when I got hurt.”

With a smile, he looked at the girl, who didn’t steal her gaze this time, before adding, “People came to know this better version of Austin after I became a student here. But the person who made me the man I am right now is you, Val.”

Valerie’s feet slowly came to a pause and so did Austin’s as they gazed into each other’s eyes.

Tears rolled down her eyes as she stared at Austin with numerous complicated emotions swirling in her mind.

She thought...he forgot all of it. She thought she was no longer needed. She assumed he didn’t need her so he would throw her away.

However, when Austin took out the ring from the box and slid it back where it was, she knew,

“Please forgive me for what I have done, Val.”

...she knew that he needed her. Just like how she needed him.

Chapter 6- System

*Click*

Valerie was back in her room. Standing silently with her back pressed against the door.

There were so many thoughts in her mind that she just...became blank.

Many things happened today and Valerie couldn’t decide what she should think first.

Looking at her hand, she found the ring which she painfully took out today, was placed back there once again.

A soft smile adorned her lips as she pressed her hand against her face and tried to feel the lingering warmth of her beloved.

When she left her room this afternoon, she couldn’t have ever anticipated such a result.

Her lord...didn’t abandon her. There was still some hope that they could become one, once again.

‘I am so happy...’ Tears rolled down her eyes as she continued to smile helplessly. Falling to her knees she held the hand on her chest and allowed herself to release all the stress she had accumulated.

The elation of getting back this ring was not something she could explain to anyone.

For a long time, Valerie remained sitting there, crying tears of joy.

Although she didn’t want to be too hopeful, she had a faint belief that after today, things between her and her lord would change.

‘I pray...that even if it is fake, you keep looking at me, my lord.’

—-------**---------

After parting ways with Valerie, Austin returned to his dorm, where a smiling old man awaited

“Young master...” Faintly, Austin could see tears in Sebastian’s eyes, which didn’t surprise him.

Austin smiled faintly, “I knew you were expecting something else from me but I am not that big of a scumbag, Sebastian.” Well, originally, he was.

The older man wiped his tears with a handkerchief, before bowing his head, “I apologize for misunderstanding you, my lord.”

Austin patted his soldier, “Don’t bow your head like this.”

Austin walked towards his bed while pulling away his necktie as he asked, “What about the visit to the Capital?”

Earlier, when Austin was going through his documents while taking Sebastian’s help to prepare the dialogues, Austin noticed that he had marked the day, exactly a week later, to return home.

Sebastian nodded, “Yes, my lord. On the occasion of your birthday, Your Majesty has arranged a celebration back home and naturally, you are invited.”

Austin wanted to scoff; a celebration for him? Yeah, what a joke.

Sebastian sensed the disdain in his master’s eyes, making the older one feel a little guilty.

“Young Master...it’s purely a coincidence that...”

“Yeah, I know. You can go now.” Austin waved at him as he unbuttoned his shirt.

The older male lowered his head and with a grieving look, he left the room.

Austin heaved a sigh; he purposely showed that he was disgusted about this whole celebration, but actually, he was not interested at all.

The fact is, Prince Austin is a useless prince and someone who was spoiled by his mother until...his elder brother, whom they thought was dead, returned one day. And the day he returned coincidentally was Austin’s birthday.

So every year, rather than celebrating Austin’s birthday, people gather around to celebrate the fact that a more responsible and strong Prince returned that day. A mini-arc is about to begin in seven days since the Protagonist would be present there as well...and as one could expect, the first Prince would become infatuated with her.

‘Seriously, pink hair is such a red flag...’ He was slightly prejudiced since his first girlfriend was also pinheaded.

Although his favorite anime character is also pink-haired, his hatred for his first girlfriend is stronger.

Once Austin locked the door, he sat on the bed and said,

‘Now then...system, rise and shine.’

[Ding!]

[Congratulations host! You have altered the plot significantly; providing a kick-start to your journey!]

He received the notification when he slid the ring on Valerie’s finger...but that moment was so precious and beautiful that he didn’t pay attention to the system at all.

But not like he would keep ignoring the golden spoon.

[THE PROGRESS-REWARD SYSTEM]

‘What a grand name...’

[The system allows the host to track the progress the host would make in several fields—romance, plot, strength, achievement, hatred, trickery. Until the host continues to progress, the system will provide worthy rewards. And through rewards, the host can alter progression as well.]

Austin hummed, and while scratching his chin he asked,

‘You mean through rewards I can progress in one of those fields? However, will that affect the physical world and other people?’

[No, host. The progression in question here is the personal achievements of the host.]

‘I don’t understand but continue.’ Austin gave the green flag as he sat cross-legged on the bed.

Austin knows that Sebastian reports to his father that’s why he was talking to the system through thoughts. God knows what kind of surveillance artifact guy might have planted in the room.

[Ding!]

[The current progression:]

[12.5/100]

[Stage-> 1]

[Upon reaching every hundred points, the host would ascend to the next stage. Progressing in each stage would grant rewards, and upon breaking to the next stage grants mega rewards.]

[Ding!]

[Upon reaching the first threshold the host has received a reward!]

[Open: Y/N]

Austin looked at the blue and black screen closely and pondered for a few minutes.

If his mind is working right, then he just needs to make progress in any field, and the bar will continue to move up.

And every time he crosses a certain point in the mark, he would receive rewards.

Nice.

‘Hmm...open the reward.’

[Ding!]

[Memory transfer!]

[The host can regain all the memories of the previous owner of the body!]

[Transfer: Y/N]

Austin’s expression turned blank, ‘Tell me something, the great system, shouldn’t I get this by default? Why as a reward?’

He was mildly annoyed that he wasn’t getting an actual reward.

[Ding!]

[There is an option to dispose of the reward!]

[Dispose: Y/N]

‘....’

Chapter 7- Memories

Austin was currently lying on his bed with his hands clasped behind his bed. There was a very bored look on his face which explains how he perceived the memories of the original owner.

Austin was the eldest child in the family until he turned eight and his older brother returned.

Since birth, Austin has been a good child—loved by his parents, had several friends, and a lovely childhood friend who later became his fiancée.

Valerie and Austin’s relationship was quite good till a decent period. They always remained together. In those memories, Austin could see that the silent girl actually admired Austin for whatever he did.

Belonging to a ducal house, Valerie was provided with the resources that allowed her to attend the same classes as Austin. They were inseparable.

However, at the age of seven, when every child awakens their Soul Shard, Austin awakens a very small stick-like object that cannot be regarded as a weapon in the first place.

Austin was...disheartened. Although he was consoled and told by his parents that Soul Shards grow with time, he couldn’t believe that he awakened such a weak Shard.

And to rub salt in his wounds, Valerie awakened a spear that shone brightly and had an edge that not even many veteran warriors possess.

After that day, Austin began to distance himself from Valerie.

Although they both trained and participated in spars, Valerie was praised more; not only by her own parents but by Austin’s as well.

His jealousy grew slowly, and to add more misfortune to his account, his elder brother returned a year later.

He was only one year old when he got stolen away by the maid who used to work for his mother. And when he returned he was a veteran warrior with a sword as his Soul Shard.

Sword—the symbol of courage and strength.

The new Prince immediately became everyone’s favorite. Austin’s parents also focused on him more, given they wanted to make up for him for the lost time. And Austin distanced himself from his family.

He began to hate Valerie and his elder brother slowly...seeing both of them as those who stole him from his happiness.

After entering the academy, Austin met Rhea...a girl who didn’t care about his worth or status. After they clashed into a battle, she offered her hand to him without any hidden intent. She just wanted to become friends with him.

And that...moved his-

“*Yawn* what a boring progression.” Austin yawned and stretched his body.

The original user was blind. He misinterpreted Valerie’s intention to become stronger.

‘But well, now that I am here I will make sure to talk things out and clear every single misunderstanding between us...’

His intention towards Valerie was clear; he wanted to make her happy. And naturally, he would save her from her unfortunate fate as well.

Getting up from the bed, Austin decided to do some light exercise before taking a bath and changing into his uniform.

“Hup!” Unlike his previous life, where he became a lazy bum while lazing around the whole day, Austin’s body felt much lighter and healthier.

Despite his crybaby habits, Austin has a habit of working out every day.

Leaning forward, Austin stood on his hands easily, feeling the energy in his body being utilized efficiently.

He lifted the left hand off the ground and was now just on a single palm, yet no struggle could be seen.

Jumping back on his feet, Austin first decided to see how many push-ups he could pull.

“1...2....3...” He began...and went on and on. He didn’t feel tired even after a hundred.

“Haah...normal workout won’t do.” People here are superhumans who utilize a special kind of energy called Aura, which they can use to strengthen their bodies and enhance their speed.

And then comes the most precious gift of an awakened.

“Frostfangs.” A pair of crystal white daggers appeared in his hands, which were his Soul Shards.

The jewel of a hunter, not a King, they say. However, in Austin’s opinion, daggers are much more efficient when it comes to fighting at close range.

The stronger one’s soul is, the Shard will continue to grow. If it breaks, you are doomed. And if it morphs, you are hailed.

There are stages of Soul Shards. Austin’s Shard has yet to go through upgrades, so he is basically Primary Awakened.

The Protagonist’s blade awakened twice, so yes, she is strong. Not only that, she aced all the practical examinations and was ranked top as a freshman.

About Valerie? Her Shard went through four transformations and the girl was so strong that the Headmaster sent her through a special assessment, where she was told to fight the instructors.

Her scores were so great that she wasn’t listed in the rankings, given her scores would have easily made several students disheartened and lost their motive to become number one.

“Haha~ain’t my wife the strongest?”

Without the help of the system, Austin’s growth would be limited. So he would progress in the field of strength and see what kind of rewards he could get.

For now, he had an important meeting with an important person. So he didn’t waste time and took a quick bath before changing into his school uniform.

A white shirt with black traces down the buttons and sleeves. Black formal trousers that reached his ankles. And a pair of black shoes. Looking at himself after combing his hair, Austin couldn’t help but compliment himself,

“I do look good...but still need a little muscle.”

Turning around he took his bag and left his room.

“Good morning, sir.” Outside his room, the same white-haired old man awaited with a friendly smile on his face.

“Morning, Sebas. I will be having breakfast in the common hall. Please bring the newspaper there.”

The butler lowered his head as Austin made his way out of the dormitory.

The confidence in his voice stems from the memories he received. Now Luke and Austin were both the same person.

Leaving the dormitory he approached the main building where on the base floor was located the common hall.

And outside the common hall, he spotted her.

Standing in a corner, doing well to hide herself, the violet-haired girl continued to peek at him.

Austin grinned; so, a breakfast date, is it?

Chapter 8- Threat?

‘Is it really okay to wait? Will he get mad? Should I just go back? Am I being a nuisance? Will he be pleased-I don’t know...’ These were the thoughts that clogged her mind as Valerie remained standing before the common hall.

She doesn’t even know if Austin would have breakfast in the common hall or his office like usual. However, she came here early in the morning to wait for him...and was hoping she could sit near him.

This step was taken after a lot of thinking and self-conflict.

She assumed that since her Lord had taken a step towards their relationship, it would be wise for her not to step back and make him feel bad...or was Valerie just being pushy?

She doesn’t know!

“Ah!” A soft exclamation left her lips when she noticed him...advancing towards the common hall while looking nothing less than a heartthrob.

Valerie was mesmerized looking at her beloved, who, despite wearing the same uniform as others, extruded a charm that forbade her from looking at anyone else.

Her eyes were meant to drown in his charm.

“Good morning?” Before Valerie could realize it, Austin was standing right in front of her while waving his hand slowly.

Her expression stiffened as she realized that he must have sensed her inappropriate gaze.

“G-Good morning...” She might have bitten her tongue.

Not good!

Austin chuckled seeing that reaction from the lovely lady before he offered, “Shall we go inside and have breakfast?”

“T-Together?”

Austin slightly tilted his head, “If you don’t mind I would love to share the table with you.”

“I don’t! Umm...please lead the way.” Her cheeks were burning due to embarrassment, and before she could show any more unlady-like traits, she lowered her head and asked him.

Austin was smiling ear to ear, seeing that reaction. Ain’t she just adorable?

They walked inside the common hall in silence, while being watched by others. They must be interested in knowing how someone who detested Valerie until yesterday, was now accompanying her in the morning.

“Did you sleep well last night?” Austin asked in a whisper as he slowed down his pace to match hers.

Valerie slowly nodded, “Somehow.”

Austin raised his brows, “I wasn’t able to sleep much...thinking about you and us.”

Valerie was rendered speechless. Just the thought of her Lord thinking about her while lying down on his bed...made her blush.

They were whispering a few words to each other while walking towards the food counter when suddenly a commotion broke out.

“Darling! I will save you from these vultures!” A young boy from the first year shouted while pointing at a group of students.

“But my lord! You hated me until now...why come to save me now?!” Another student, a guy, while pretending to be a girl, asked the first one.

The first boy’s eyes sparkled as, in a dramatic tone, he said, “I realized my love last night and decided to adhere to you. After all, this useless son of the family needs a powerful woman who can protect him, right~” Saying so, the guy and the whole group turned their eyes toward Austin.

Valerie’s expression darkened, her steps coming to a halt and her aura making the common hall grow dark.

The instructors standing at the entrance instantly turned their heads toward the source of the disturbance.

The boy who was imitating Austin narrowed his eyes as a cold sweat trailed down his back, but he refused to back off.

Before Valerie could have moved toward them and would have done something that surely would have granted her an explosion letter, Austin held her arm.

“It’s okay, Val. Let them be.” Austin knew the consequences of any action being taken here. Generally, no instructors remain around Common Hall around this period ... which explains that Morkel has sent them here under the ‘presumption’ that something might happen.

And the fact that Austin took Valerie’s side during the trials must be revealed by him to these students, as well.

If Valerie or Austin reacted violently, they would land in their trap.

Valerie’s aura slowly subdued, as Austin waved at the instructors before telling them, “It’s all good now.”

The two men glanced at each other before they decided to back off.

Valerie looked at her Lord before asking, “Just a moment. Please.”

Austin trusted her judgment and released her arm.

Valerie turned towards the group and started walking. The instructors tensed up, however, since she wasn’t releasing her aura, they didn’t stop her.

She wasn’t running, nor was she yelling. She moved slowly, deliberately, her every step radiating menace. The light in the hall seemed colder, dimmer, as though her very presence was leeching the warmth from the air.

Most of the boys from the group have backed off except for the two who dare mock her Lord.

Valerie came to a pause before them and asked,

“You are Davin Longwock, son of Viscount Orion Longwock, and you....Brendon Notreheim, son of Baron Flitwick Notreheim.”

The boy, Davin, narrowed his eyes, “Yeah, so what?”

Valerie ignored his words and continued, “Section three first year, fourth bench. Section four first year, seventh bench. You both were once charged with sexually assaulting a first-year classmate during the orientation. But because of your father’s support, the case was dismissed.”

Hearing that, Brendon instantly clutched Davin’s shirt in apprehension while Davin’s expression also faltered.

“W-What are you trying to imply here?”

A very thin and chilly smile extended her lips, as she said, “Sadly, your misdeeds will cause not only you but your corrupted fathers as well. Just watch your steps while walking at night. Someone might be behind you~”

A chill ran down Davin’s spine as he yelled at her, “You can’t threaten us!”

“Threat? A threat has a possibility that the person might not do what they claim.” Her expression turned frosty, eyes devoid of any emotion as the violet-haired added,

“But I assure you, I will make your life hell, after what you have done today. Just wait for the big news, my adorable underclassmen~”

—-------**----------

A/N:- Yeah, she is. Congrats, Austin, you have gained the best kind of waifu.

Chapter 9- Apology

It was not like he didn’t hear what Valerie said, but Austin purposely chose to not talk about it. Why? Because they deserved to be punished.

After that, no one dared to mock Austin or Valerie; they didn’t even glance at them anymore, knowing to what length Valerie could go if things involved Austin.

It was not new for Valerie to take action against people who tried belittling her beloved; however, Austin always reprimanded her, saying he didn’t need her consideration, and often complained about her to the headmaster as well.

He thought Valerie was taking him as a weak person who could not protect his dignity—however, Valerie just naturally couldn’t stand to see someone badmouthing her Lord.

The previous Alex might be offended to see her threatening the duo but the current him was grinning ear to ear.

“You are adorable, Val.”

The cup from her hand nearly slipped hearing that as she asked, “Umm...wh-why do you say that?”

“Just felt like it. You are adorable, just accept it.”

Valerie lowered her eyes, her face turning strawberry red as she nodded, “...okay.”

Valerie has received compliments in the past; however, everyone said that she was strong and mature for her age. However, this was the first time someone called her cute and she was lucky to receive the compliment from her dearest.

Austin was having eggs and bread for breakfast; something he usually preferred when he was regular in the sports team. And now that he has reincarnated in the new world, he wants to maintain his health so yeah, return to a healthy routine.

As he bit the bread, Austin casually asked, “Valerie, can you train me after school?”

Hearing his request, she was flabbergasted and Austin knew the reason behind her reaction.

In the past when Austin lost his first official battle, Valerie approached him and asked if he wanted some help in training.

Austin was already furious, so he shouted at Valerie saying so many mean things that Valerie cried in front of him for the first time.

And the worst part, Austin didn’t even feel guilty about it; he said she cried to make him feel bad and nothing more.

Yeah, scumbag.

Extending his hand, he softly held her hand and told her, “I know many things happened between us in these months...and what happened last time, saying a simple apology won’t do. So give me some time and I will make up for every mistake I have committed.”

Valerie tenderly smiled, a smile that can make one’s morning good, as she said, “You don’t need to go out of your way to do anything....just your presence in my life alone is hefty compensation.”

“///” Okay, that smile along with that line was enough to make even Austin—who was confident in his tolerance against charm—blush.

However, he didn’t steal his gaze and softly nodded, “So you don’t need-”

“Austin.” Their conversation was interrupted by a familiar pink head.

Austin, with an annoyed sigh seeping through his lips, turned towards the girl, “Yes, Rhea?” He doesn’t want anything or anyone to disturb his time with Valerie.

It wasn’t like Rhea couldn’t read the room; however, there was something that kept gnawing her, which ushered the girl to finally approach him.

“Can we talk? Just for a minute?” She pleaded.

Austin turned his eyes toward her with a clear intention to deny her request...until his eyes landed on a certain individual who undoubtedly listened to their conversation.

After a pause, he nodded, “Okay, but just one minute.” He got up from the seat and kissed Valerie’s forehead,

“I will be back.”

Valerie’s growing stress was dissipated by that sudden kiss as she covered her face and felt the heat that suddenly enveloped her face.

Austin followed Rhea to the entrance of the common hall while making sure that many students watched them walking together. He even glanced at the instructors, and fortunately, they also saw them together.

‘Nice~’

Finally, Rhea came to a halt and turned to look at Austin.

After taking a long breath, the pink-haired teenager finally uttered, “Austin...I am sorry. I didn’t know that Valerie adored that dress so much and I should have controlled my temper back then, considering Valerie isn’t aware of my family situation.”

Austin raised his brows; it would be a lie to say he was surprised.

Rhea was the protagonist with a golden heart. Naturally, she would feel guilty even for the one who nearly killed her and apologize for her mistake.

Austin asked in a confused tone, “Why are you telling me this? Shouldn’t you apologize to Valerie instead?”

An awkward smile extended Rhea’s lips as she said, “I...feel quite uncomfortable in her presence...you can say she gives me the vibe of a strict mother who can reprimand me because of the slightest of mistakes.”

Austin couldn’t stop himself from laughing at the remark.

It is true that Valerie possesses a very stern personality, and she doesn’t hesitate to make others realize their mistakes. Not only Rhea and some other students but even some Professors are scared of Valerie—given she has spotted mistakes in their teachings in the past.

So it wasn’t surprising that Rhea was scared of talking to Valerie.

Austin soon nodded, before assuring her, “Okay, I will relay your words to her. And for what Valerie did, I would like to extend an apology for that as well.”

Rhea shook her head with a smile, “In a way she helped me.... helped me in realizing how far I have to go.”

Their conversation concluded not so long after and Austin returned to his table.

Valerie hasn’t touched the food ever since he walked away. Everything looked in its place....except for the fork he was eating with.

“Did you change the fork?” Last he remembered, there were marks of egg white and yolk on it. But now it was shining as new.

Hearing that, just for a moment, Valerie flinched, but Austin was occupied with the strawberry milk, so he didn’t notice that.

“A-Ah...it fell to the ground, so I brought a new one,” Valerie explained, and Austin didn’t ask about it anymore.

As he resumed eating he told her, “Rhea said she was sorry for what she did to your gown.”

Valerie’s expression sobered up hearing that as she nodded and picked up her cup.

Austin sensed the change of temperament, as he asked, “You don’t like when I talk to Rhea, right?”

Valerie instantly shook her head in denial with her eyes widened....however, under her Lord’s evaluating gaze she wasn’t able to lie for long.

“A...little.”

Austin chuckled before assuring her, “Then I won’t talk to her...at least alone that is. After all, I must listen to my future wife’s demands, right?”

The rest of the breakfast elapsed without Valerie raising her feverish red face even once.

Chapter 10- Training(1)

El Hener Parkinson—the second son of King Zurkus El Hener.

Parkinson belongs to the neighboring nation and is someone who came here as an exchange student for just a month. However, in that single month, he became infatuated with a certain girl.

The way she talked to him without showing prejudice or believing any of those rumors that suggested his father was involved in Dark magic... just touched his heart.

She cared about him. She asked him regularly if he had lunch or if he needed any help in integrating himself with the classes. She was there when everyone looked at him with suspicion and contempt.

And that was enough for the Prince to fall for Rhea.

Under normal circumstances, Austin would have let Parkinson and the other two continue their love life as usual. He had nothing to do with them. Although Rudolph was his friend, Austin had no interest nor right to interfere with whom Rudolph hung out with.

However, if Austin remains nonchalant about Parkinson then not only Valerie—who was Parkinson’s primary target—but now Austin as well, would get targeted.

Canonically, after Valerie returns from her three-month-long suspension, it was Parkinson who framed her in a severe case, leaving no option for the Headmaster other than to expel the girl.

Parkinson could go to some extreme lengths to protect Rhea and punish those who harm her.

And at the moment, Austin and Valerie are his targets. So before Parkinson does anything Austin devised a plan.

However, before he initiates that, he needs something from a certain someone.

Loyalty.

“Young master?” There was evident shock on Sebastian’s face when he heard the command of his young master.

Austin, while calmly sipping on the tea Sebastian brewed, said, “Yes, Sebas. I want you to return to the Capital. I no longer require your services.”

Austin plainly stated. After all that he was about to do, he couldn’t let his father or anyone else know about it.

Sebastian wasn’t able to answer immediately, allowing Austin to add,

“I remember my elder brother invited you the previous year to stop working for me and help him in the management. I think your skills are much needed there, Sebas.”

“Young master, if I have done something to anger you, please let me know.”

From his words, it was certain that the grey-haired man was devoted to serving Austin.

Sebastian has been serving the family for the past twenty-five years, and Austin has been in his care ever since he turned three.

So in a way, Austin was like a son to him. And the fondness Sebastian carried was getting exploited here by the blond Prince.

Heaving a sigh, Austin said, “You did nothing wrong Sebastian. Rather, I would say that even if I search the whole world, I don’t think I can find a responsible and hardworking butler like you. I never even regarded you as a servant but my guardian, Sebas.”

The older one looked older than his age as he softly asked, “Then...what is the reason, my lord?”

Austin finally revealed it, “It’s because I no longer want my father to know about me.”

Sebastian was taken aback by that reason, and before he could process what his young master said, Austin pressed,

“I know you report to him about me. You might have as well surrounded me with surveillance. And after today, I don’t want anyone to know what I do.”

Sebastian now understood what his young master was displeased about.

It was not surprising that his young master was aware of his regular reporting to the king.

...but it’s another matter that the Majesty doesn’t pay much attention to those letters.

Sebastian knelt before Austin and asked, “What do you want, young master.”

Austin took out a parchment which was glowing with a faint black hue. It was a contract—an Oblivion Accord.

It is a type of contract in which if the other party breaches the conditions, then they would forget everything about the contract and everything that happened after the contract was signed.

“Sign this, Sebas. From now on, you’ll be informing my father what I let you do. If you agree then you can continue to serve me. If not...then I can manage things on my own.”

It would be a lie to say that Austin wasn’t feeling anything by cornering the old man like this. This guy has helped him, guided him, and suggested him at so many important steps of his life that he was already far too important for him than his parents.

However, to ensure a better and unrestricted future, Austin has to take these steps.

Sebastian took the contract from him and read it once.

Austin watched in anticipation; truth be told, he didn’t want Sebastian to leave since if he stayed, he would be extremely helpful in what Austin planned to do.

And as he thought(hoped), Sebastian bit his thumb and drew a few droplets of blood on the parchment.

The contract was accepted and signed so it glowed and disintegrated.

Austin smiled, and after getting up, he offered his hand to the older one, “Thank you, Sebastian. I know I can trust you.”

Sebastian heaved a sigh; somehow, he could sense that he had landed in the trap that his young master had set for him.

Austin soon approached the door, urging Sebastian to ask, “Are you going to your chamber, my lord?”

Austin smiled before shaking his head, “I got a meeting with my fiancée.”

It took only twenty minutes for Valerie to return to her room, take a quick bath, and change into more comfortable clothes before returning to the training ground.

Her Lord has asked her to help him train and she desires to be there before time.

Not long after(an hour), Austin appeared on the training ground with a soft smile and asked, “Did I make you wait?”

Valerie slowly shook her head, “I just arrived.”

Austin nodded, before he asked, “So how should we begin?”

Valerie’s lips turned into a smile that sent a shiver down his spine as she uttered,

“Before we start, I need to know how much my lord has progressed.” She stepped back and asked him,

“Please go ahead and try to kill me, Austin.”

“...”

Chapter 11- Training(2)

Standing in the middle of the training ground, Austin faced his fiancée, who was currently performing the role of a trainer.

Holding his daggers, he drew a sharp breath.

Since using Soul Shards in regular training is not allowed, Austin brought his personal training dagger which surely was sharp enough to cut.

“Are you sure about this?” Austin asked, for the final time.

Valerie calmly nodded and remained nonchalant about this little spar.

‘So be it...’

Austin lunged forward, dagger flashing in his grip as he aimed for Valarie’s side. His movements were swift and precise—each step fueled by his training and knowledge of close combat. Yet, Valarie was faster.

With a fluid motion, she sidestepped his thrust, her body weaving just out of reach. Austin pivoted instantly, slashing upward in a seamless follow-up, but Valarie tilted her head back, letting the blade slice through the air inches from her face.

Austin didn’t let up. He stepped in close, feinting low before driving the dagger toward her chest in a sharp thrust. Valarie’s hand shot up, catching his wrist mid-motion. With a sharp twist, she forced his arm to the side, but he was already spinning, using the momentum to bring the blade slashing toward her ribs.

Valarie leaned back, the blade slicing harmlessly past her, then stepped into his guard. Her hand shot forward, fingers closing around his forearm like a vice, halting his next attack before it even began.

“You’re predictable,” she said, her tone calm, almost teasing.

Frustrated, Austin tightened his grip and shifted tactics. Feinting a low stab, he quickly redirected the blade toward her shoulder. Valarie’s hand shot out, palm open, and redirected his wrist with a sharp push, forcing him off balance.

Before he could recover, she closed the distance, her footwork impeccable, and tapped his wrist lightly, disarming him with effortless precision.

His dagger clattered to the ground, but Austin wasn’t done. He lashed out with his fists, launching a quick jab aimed at her chest. Valarie parried with her forearm, redirecting the force harmlessly to the side.

She stepped closer, her movements smooth and controlled, and drove her knee upward—not to strike but to stop his next punch mid-swing by trapping his arm against her thigh.

“Be angrier, my lord.” She sadistically whispered.

Growling, Austin twisted free, grabbed his dagger, and swung in a wide arc. Valarie leaned back, her torso bending like a reed in the wind, and then she spun, closing the gap faster than he could react. Her fingers lightly tapped his forehead, a mock strike that caused him to fall back—however, just in time, Austin held her collar and pulled her down with him.

**THUD**

Both of them fell to the ground, their faces inches away as Austin held her by her shoulders and looked into her surprised eyes.

Austin’s breathing was ragged as he stared at the girl who completely overwhelmed him even without using an ounce of magic and a weapon.

In a barely audible tone, Valerie asked, “Are you angry, my lord?”

Austin raised his brows, “Why... haa...why would I be? You just showed me where I stand, and made me realize how far I have to go.”

In the past, his answer might have been different, given the previous owner regarded everything as infuriating when it concerned Valerie.

Valerie knelt between his legs and asked shyly, “Are you hurt?”

Austin softly smiled and whispered, “If you are going to be my nurse, then yes, my whole body is aching.”

Valerie’s lips stretched in a shy smile as she lowered her head, letting her violet hair fall like curtains and hiding her face.

They soon got up, and Austin realized that, indeed, there was aching in his waist, but a good night’s sleep would take for the pain to vanish.

Their training went on for another ten or so minutes before Austin raised his hands in defeat, saying his current self couldn’t touch her.

Valerie went to bring water and a towel for him as Austin sat on the nearby bench.

Once she returned, Austin took a few mouthfuls of water.

Once he was done, he asked her, “So? What do I need to work on? And please, be as blunt as you can.”

Valerie remained silent for a moment, hesitating, but then she decided it would be unfair to tell him the half-truth, “My lord, your movements and techniques are top-notch...what you lack are speed and precision. Y
