Chapter 1

“Honey, did you see what I sent you?” Robert asks as he walks into Jane’s office.

“The Better America Act thing?” Jane takes off her headset and replies, too focused on her monitor to look at him. Robert notices she is taking notes, and actually has a video of the press conference paused. That seems a bit unusual for her, as she is rarely interested in politics.

“Yes, it’s fucked up. How the fuck is this ok? How do we call ourselves a civilized country and do this shit?” Robert asks, his blood pressure clearly rising.

“Calm down, honey, I’m looking into it. Remember what we talked about, you can’t get upset about every single thing that happens now, or you are going to stroke out within a few days.” Jane sighs, frustrated both with the situation, and her inability to think of anything that will make Robert not stress out over this.

“Why don’t you just go back to work, and try to avoid the news for a few days? I promise I will let you know if anything else big happens, and tonight I’ll give you a summary of the BAA thing.” She asks, hoping to buy herself some time to figure out a better solution.

“Fine. I’ve got a meeting in a few minutes, and after that I’ll do my best to stay off the internet. Sorry, I don’t mean to take these things out on you; I just can’t believe this is actually happening. I love you.” Robert says, clearly still frustrated, but realizing he is making Jane’s life more complicated.

“I love you too. Back to work with you.” Jane answers, putting back on her headset and continuing to watch the press conference.

Jane takes the following notes:

• All borders will be closed immediately. Military and National Guard units, as well as drone surveillance, will ensure no one goes in or out.

• All citizens to submit DNA samples within the next two weeks.

• Citizens found to be less than 95% European ancestry to lose citizenship immediately and be detained.

• Citizens who appear to be less than 95% European ancestry will be detained by authorities as they are located,  but will be released if testing shows they are over the limit.

• Adult males detained will be sent to detention camps, and then assigned to various long term work camps. Corporations are allowed to lease detainee labor.

• Female detainees over the age of 40 will be treated as the male detainees.

• Female detainees between 18-39 will be screened for health issues, STDs, mental disorders, drug addiction, etc., and those deemed fit to reproduce to be auctioned to various white males to be their breeding slaves (they are calling them concubines).

• Adult females in the previous group not deemed fit will be sterilized and assigned to various jobs.

• Children who are detained will be raised in camps, and as they age out are treated the same as the adults.

• Auction criteria listed on the Better America Act site.

“Robert isn’t wrong.” Jane mutters. “This is some sick shit, and this is just what they are publicly admitting. Who knows how bad things will actually be?”

Jane can’t help but be curious, and pulls up the Better America Act website. Looking at the bidder criteria, she notices the following:

Initial bidding restricted to those with:

• At least 99% European ancestry.

• Men with a stable employment history.

• Men with proven fertility via sperm testing.

• Men who do not yet have children.

• Men who have the means to provide for additional partners and children (over $200k net worth and $100k household income minimum).

As Jane reads through this, she realizes Robert meets all of the criteria. They both have had DNA testing in the past, and are both 100% European, Robert has been at his job for a decade, their fertility issues had been on her end, and they just barely met the income and net worth levels. She decides to schedule the DNA testing for both herself and Robert for the morning, knowing Robert would want to put it off. She also applies for bidder status for Robert using his previous DNA test results and attaching a copy of their medical records from their fertility specialist.

When she is doing that, Jane hears Robert making noise in the kitchen. “He must be funneling his frustration into making dinner for me.” She thinks, with a smile. “Now how do I explain this in a way that doesn’t send him into a cleaning frenzy...”

As Jane gets off work, she sends the notes to her phone, along with a brief description of her plan. As they sit down for dinner, Robert asks. “Anything else happen after I came down?”

“We aren’t discussing that at dinner, honey.” Jane says. “After dinner we can go through it all. I’d like to have a nice, normal meal together, while we still can.”

Jane and Robert make small talk, but Jane can tell Robert is still thinking about the ‘Better America’ bullshit. As they finish their meal, Jane decides it’s best to get the conversation over with, while it’s still early enough for Robert to work through his frustration.

“Ok, honey, you’ve been patient, so here is the deal. Yes, what they are doing is fucked up. Probably more than you realized, if you didn’t read the entire Act summary before you sent it to me. But there is an opportunity here, both for us, and for a few of the detainees.” Jane proceeds to summarize her notes, while Robert gets more and more aggravated. As he begins to cut in with questions, Jane tells him to just type them into his note app on his phone, and she will answer them at the end. As she finishes going over her notes, she flips pages, and says. “Now onto the opportunity bit. Don’t freak out, and please let me finish, because I know you are going to have questions and objections.”

“Yes, Ma’am” Robert says with just a hint of sarcasm, clearly concerned about where this is going.

“I’d like to propose that we bid on one or more of the women who are going to be auctioned.” Jane says.

“Are you insane? I’m not going to buy a person.” Robert says quickly.

“Honey, I knew you would say that, but please let me finish so I can explain why we need to do this.” Jane says patiently. “Look, honey, all of these women are going to be sold to someone, and chances are most people bidding are going to be doing it because they like the idea of owning a slave. Think of some of the men we’ve run into over the years on BDSM sites, and what they would do with a woman who has absolutely no ability to say no to anything.”

“Fuck.” Robert says, and takes a minute to think. “This is so screwed up, but you are right. So explain to me how this would work, and how us buying a woman makes us any better than those creeps.”

“Well, for starters we can interview the women before we bid. You qualify for priority bidding status, and in our area, not many men will qualify. That means we won’t have a ton of competition, at least at first. We can find a few that could work well with both of us, and then interview them, and see if they want us to bid. If they say no, we move on to the next woman. I’m not suggesting that we force this on anyone.” Jane explains.

“Plus, anyone who doesn’t get any bids at all may end up sterilized, and probably will be forced into prostitution or worse.” Jane continues. “Given the choice, I can’t imagine not choosing the nice couple that shows up offering a quiet, safe life.”

“I’ll need to think about this. We can’t have another Dee situation. Neither of us can handle that.” Robert says, getting a bit choked up.

“I’m going to vet the women carefully, and make sure we don’t screw up like that again. I know I fucked up choosing Dee, and not seeing the problems sooner, but I promise this will be different.” Jane says quietly.

“We fucked up with Dee, not you. I should have said something sooner, but you liked her so much, and I kept hoping things would get better.” Robert says, taking Jane’s hand in his.

“Well, this time we need to communicate regularly about how things are going. I promise I’ll do better about asking you how things are going on your end, and please be honest, even if you think I won’t take it well.” Jane soothes Robert.

“This is a lot to take in. I need to sleep on it, we can talk more tomorrow, if that is ok. I’m going to go for my evening walk, I don’t suppose you want to come?” Robert says, standing up and clearing his plate.

“No walking for me tonight. I may have scheduled our DNA tests tomorrow. Better to get it over with sooner rather than wait until it’s busy at the testing site.” Jane decides not to tell him about the bidder application just yet. “Have a nice walk.”

“Thanks, I’ll be back shortly.” Robert says as he grabs his shoes and walks out the door.

As Robert walks around the neighborhood, he struggles with the decision. On the one hand, he could, potentially, help rescue someone from a terrible existence. On the other hand, he thought they were helping Dee, and instead they got used, and Jane had gotten very hurt. He remembers back to Dee, how she had wanted to be ‘owned’ in a BDSM sense, and then how badly it went when she started staying out all night, acting coldly and avoiding them during the day, the almost certain cheating, and the pain when he finally had to end the relationship for Jane’s mental health.

As he thinks back to what Jane had said earlier about the types of people who would be bidding on these women, and what they would do with them, he decides to do some research when he makes it back to the house. Getting back to the house, he kisses Jane, and tells her he is going to do a little research.

Jane was right. If anything, she may have underestimated the danger to the detained women. Robert finds men discussing how to torture women into full compliance. Another is asking about how to induce Stockholm Syndrome as quickly as possible. Some of the worst were the posts about body modification, things like removing tongues so the women wouldn’t be able to speak.

Robert notices with grim amusement that several of these men’s profile pictures clearly showed that they were minorities. Robert guessed they hadn’t read that part of the act yet, and wondered how long it would take for them to figure it out.

He wasn’t sure either of them was ready to do this again, but it didn’t look like he had much of a choice. He texts Jane to join him for their shower, and heads to the master bathroom to start the water.

Jane hugs him when she comes in. “Are you ok?” She asks.

“You were right.” He says. “It’s worse than you said, if that’s possible. If we can find the right fit, I’m willing to consider it.”

Jane looks relieved. “I knew you would come around.” She says. “I love you, and I promise, I’ll make sure we get the best girl we can.”

“I’m sure you will.” Robert says, kissing her on the forehead, before stepping into the shower, and then making room for her. “The question is how do we go about it?”

“I may have already applied for a bidder license for you.” Jane admits, stepping in to join him. “It doesn’t really say when or how the auctions will work; it sounds like they haven’t really worked it out yet. Most of what was announced was general, not specific information that we can plan around.”

“I love you.” Robert says as he washes Jane. “But please talk to me before doing anything else. We are a team, we can’t have you going rogue.”

“I’ll do my best.” Jane says, leaving some wiggle room to make decisions that need to happen quickly. “We have time to make decisions. Testing lasts for two weeks, that gives us time to plan.”

“We need to start thinking about how to make the choice, if we have multiple women who are interested.” Robert says.

“Why take just one?” Jane asks. “I suspect we’ll have plenty of interest.”

“I agree to one, and you immediately want more.” Robert says, shaking his head. “How many women are you thinking of? I don’t want to agree to two, and then you push for three.”

“It depends on what we find.” Jane says. “But I don’t see any reason we can’t support two or three.”

“Or four, or five.” Robert says. “How long until we have to buy a second house?”

“Just hear me out.” Jane says, rinsing off and starting to wash Robert. “Say we end up with three sweet girls. They can split up the chores, maybe one of them will be my shopping buddy, and the other two can hang out with you while I’m gone. It could work out great for all of us. It’s not like we don’t have the space.”

“Or they could murder us in our sleep.” Robert points out. “Or argue constantly. Or be messy and lazy.”

“We’ll have to let them know that none of that will be tolerated.” Jane says. “As for the ‘murdering us in our sleep’ thing, I mean, I guess it could happen, but it could just as easily have happened with any of our former subs. If either of us get murderer vibes, we pass on the woman. We’ve got time to work out the details.”

“I guess.” Robert says. “Maybe we’ll find out more at testing tomorrow.”

Chapter 2

Jane and Robert were both quiet as they drove to the testing center the next morning. The previous night’s conversation had given them both plenty to think about, and Robert had struggled to shut off his mind and sleep.

They pull into the center a few minutes later, check in on the tablet at the front desk, and find seats to wait.

“I didn’t expect it to be this busy already.” Robert says.

“Just wait til the end of the testing period.” Jane says. “I bet a ton of people end up waiting until the last minute.”

Their names are eventually called, and they are quickly swabbed and moved to a secondary waiting room to await their results.

“They are taking this seriously.” Jane says, nodding at the exit door, which has a guard on it.

“They probably don’t want anyone bolting if they get unexpectedly bad results.” Robert says. “Although this isn’t exactly a diverse group.”

“That’s to be expected.” Jane says. “Would you show up for testing day one if you were a minority? Or would you hide in your home and try to enjoy the last few days of freedom? Or try to run away maybe, if you had somewhere to go?”

As names are called, people come up and are issued a new state ID card. Robert notices the cards are in different colors, and one man begins crying loudly as he is handed a red card, and is told to go through a different door back into the building. He is clearly in shock, and the guard has to approach and order him again to go through the door. The man’s wife speaks frantically to the attendant, clearly trying to understand what is happening. She begins to argue with the attendant, and the security guard grabs her, tossing her out of the door, and closing it.

“Fuck.” Robert whispers to Jane. “I don’t think I would survive if they just took you from me like that.”

“Not going to happen.” Jane says. “We wouldn’t be here today if we hadn’t already been tested. Remember to keep your composure, honey. We don’t need any negative attention in here.”

A few minutes pass, with Robert watching the interactions. “The ID cards appear to be color coded.” He tells Jane. “Any idea what the colors mean?”

“It didn’t say anything on the BAA site, but we’ll have to ask when we get our results.” Jane says. “Most people seem to be getting white and yellow, right?”

“That’s what I’ve noticed.” Robert says. “The guy that got pulled back got a red card, and I noticed one woman getting a green card.”

The interior door opens, and a guard walks in leading a short dark haired woman.

“Sit here please.” He tells her, and goes to talk to the other guard, pointing at her. The other guard nods, and then he walks back past the woman, and through the interior door.

Robert leans over to Jane, and whispers. “Hispanic?”

“Hard to tell with her head down, but probably. Why else would the guards be paying special attention to her?” Jane asks.

Just then, the woman looks up and scans the room, noticing almost everyone staring at her.

Jane whispers to Robert, “She could be an option, she’s kind of cute.”

“If you like the ‘Might knife you in your sleep’ kind of girl.” Robert replies.

“She’s just nervous and scared. You can hardly blame her for that.” Jane says, squeezing his leg.

“I don’t blame her for anything, but that doesn’t make me want to trust her enough to bring her into our home.” Robert says. “Besides, we can’t just latch onto the first person you see. We also have to be careful to find people that can get along with both of us, and not draw unwanted government attention to our house by doing anything stupid. That’s the last thing we need.”

“It was just an idea, honey.” Jane says somewhat defensively. “We can just drop it.”

Robert’s name was called next, and he noticed the attendant was holding out a green card, along with some paperwork.

“Congratulations!” She says. “You got the jackpot.”

“What?” Robert asks. “I’m sorry, I have no idea what the color codes mean.”

“You scored 100%, so you get a green card. White card is 99-99.9, Yellow is 95-98.9, and below that is Red, which means getting detained. Each card has different rights and responsibilities, so make sure to read the documents before leaving. If you have questions, you can come up and ask, or go to the website on the paperwork. Good luck.” The attendant says, seeming genuinely happy for him, which makes him feel rather disconcerted.

“What did she say?” Jane asks as he sits down.

Robert starts to summarize the conversation, about to hand over the paperwork so she can read it, when Jane’s name is called.

He watches her walk up, but can’t see what color she is getting. He decides to read the paperwork while he waits, but doesn’t get far before Jane plops down next to him.

“I got green!” She says, a little more loudly than was necessary, clearly excited.

“I’m still not sure I understand what that means.” Robert replies quietly, uncomfortable with the fact that most of the waiting room, including the young Hispanic woman, are now staring at both of them.

“I asked the attendant, and she asked us to read the green paper before we leave, and to come ask her if we have questions.” Jane says. “It sounded like she expected us to have questions.”

Robert and Jane grab their copy, and begin reading.

“Is this saying we can just walk up to a woman we think will be a red card, and claim her as our property?” Jane asks.

“Keep reading.” Robert says. “It sounds like we can claim two, because we are both green cards. See down here: If a husband and wife are both green cards, the husband may use the wife’s green card slip to claim a second concubine. We need to read all of this before we leave, I wasn’t expecting this to be this real this fast.”

“I’m glad we discussed the possibility of taking two women last night.” Jane says. “What do you think of that girl? I think she’s cute, in sort of a tomboy way.”

“You are getting way too caught up in this.” Robert replies. “First, I agreed to one girl, then two, after we take two weeks to assess the situation. Now you want to bring a girl home with us, right now. What’s next, buy a set of triplets at an auction and have five extra women in the house?”

“Keep reading, honey. It doesn’t sound like this is optional. On the next page it says: Green cards who don’t make claims will get assigned women, starting on auction day. We definitely don’t want some rando assigned to us. We could end up with someone that is an awful fit. We are going to have to use the claims before that happens, to make sure we get someone compatible with both of us.” Jane says, much to Robert’s chagrin.

“Ok, that’s it. I need to read the rest of this thing now, and find out what other traps are in this.” Robert says, already beginning to read with much more urgency.

Jane is a bit frustrated. She had been hoping Robert would get into this a bit more, like she was. She imagined this could be good for the two of them, she could have women in the house to keep her company and be her friends, and Robert could finally have the kids and large family he had always wanted, all while feeling like they were doing a good thing. She skims the paperwork, ignoring the legalese parts, and trying to focus on the important parts.

“Alexia Sanchez.” The attendant calls loudly, leading everyone in the room except Robert to immediately look at the Hispanic woman, who begins to cry as she gets to her feet. Jane is relieved that Robert is still reading, and resolves to keep him away from these types of situations in the future until he is a bit more prepared to deal with the new realities of the world.

The guard at the door gestures towards the woman, and she slowly moves towards the attendant’s window. The attendant’s face softens as she talks to the woman, taking much longer than she had with any of the previous people. Alexia appears to ask a question, and the attendant points in the direction of Robert and Jane.

Alexia turns to face them, and appears to be coming to some sort of decision. As she begins to slowly walk towards them, making eye contact with Jane, the guard steps forward, clearly ready to move her out the door for detainees. The attendant waves him off, and he goes back to the door.

“Hello, My name is Alexia.” She says to Jane, sniffling a bit, but managing to keep her composure. Robert comes out of his reverie, too caught up in reading the paperwork to notice her approach.

“I’m Jane, and this is my husband, Robert.” Jane replies. “What can we do for you?”

As she prepares to speak, Robert gets up and offers her his chair, getting a nasty look from the guard as he does. “Robert, sit back down, Alexia doesn’t need any extra attention right now.” Jane says. “Go ahead Alexia.”

“Rosie at the counter tells me you both are green cards.” Alexia says. “I work... worked for the state, that’s how I ended up here on day one. We were all told we had to be tested immediately, before returning to work. On the way over, our boss explained a bit what the card system means. Your green card means you can claim someone, right?”

“Actually, since we are both green cards, we can claim two women.” Jane replies. “Are you asking to be claimed?”

“Not me, my cousin Lucia. She is waiting at home. I told her not to leave the house today. Rosie says that because I got a red card, they are going to pick her up for testing. I don’t want her to go through that, and I don’t know anyone who is likely to get a green card that I can ask to help her. She’s only 18, being dragged out of the apartment by random people would terrify her.” Alexia sniffles, the emotions starting up again. “I can’t ask you to use both of your claims on us, but if you could claim her, I would at least know she is ok. Maybe you could let me record a message you could play for her, so she knows that I sent you.”

Robert starts to reply, and Jane stops him. “Honey, let me handle this please. You and I can talk before we give her a definite answer.”

Robert doesn’t look thrilled at this, but shrugs and sits back, waiting to hear whatever Jane is going to say.

“Tell me about your cousin. How old is she, does she have any skills, what is her personality like? I have to make sure that anyone I bring into my home will work well with both of us.” Jane says.

“Lucia is 18, very sweet, a bit shy with strangers, and she loves kids. She just finished high school. She is very smart, she’s been looking for a job until she can start college for nursing, though I suppose that isn’t going to happen now.” Alexia pulls out her phone, showing Jane a photo of her. Jane takes the phone, surprising Alexia a bit, and asks her “And what if we wanted to claim both of you?”

“I would be extremely grateful, but if you only are going to claim one of us, please claim her. She’s never even had a boyfriend, being sent to an auction would really mess her up.” Alexia says, tearing up a bit more thinking about it.

“Give me a minute to speak to my husband, and then I’ll let you know what we’ve decided.” Jane says gently.

Alexia retreats a few steps, just far enough to give them a bit of privacy without being far enough to attract any response from the door guard.

Jane turns the phone screen towards Robert. The girl in the photo is very cute. Pale for a Hispanic girl, long hair, maybe a bit skinny, but with a captivating smile.

“You want to claim them both?” Robert says, nervously.

“I wanted to claim Alexia initially.” Jane says. “I think her cousin sounds perfect for you though. A sweet, kind girl like she is describing is exactly what you’ve always wanted, plus Alexia should be very grateful if we claim her cousin. Claiming both seems like the right move for us, and them.”

“This is all moving very quickly.” Robert says. “How do we know they are going to be a good fit, long term?”

“Look at the last page of the paperwork. It essentially says you can trade any woman who isn’t pregnant, or send her back to auction. Once she has kids, that becomes more complicated though. I honestly don’t think it will be an issue, I’m getting good vibes off Alexia.” Jane says as she eyes up Alexia. “I do have one more question for her. Are you good with us claiming them both? I don’t feel comfortable just taking one or the other.”

“I’ll have to trust your judgment, honey.” Robert says. “If you weren’t here, I would have said yes the moment the tears started anyhow.”

“I know, honey.” Jane says, giving him a kiss. “Finish reading the paperwork while I talk to Alexia. I love you!”

Jane walks the few steps to Alexia, and quietly says, “We aren’t interested in splitting you up, so if we claim you, it will be both of you.” Alexia’s expression quickly brightens, but before she can say anything, Jane continues, “First, I want to make sure we are on the same page. My husband’s happiness is the most important thing to me. You will do what I say, when I say it, when it comes to Robert, and remember that we are in charge. We both want kids, and I will treat you and any future children with respect as long as you follow the rules and don’t cause trouble. If you or Lucia become a problem though, I won’t hesitate to have you both sold. If you think this is going to be an issue, please tell me now, so we don’t all have to go through that.”

“Yes Ma’am, thank you so much.” Alexia replies. “I promise, you won’t regret taking us.”

“I hope not.” Jane says, hoping she was making the right decision for both Robert and herself. “Let’s go get you registered so we can get out of here and pick up Lucia before the goon squad arrives.”

Chapter 3

Registration is surprisingly quick and easy. The attendant Rosie appears to be expecting them to claim Alexia, and scans Alexia’s card, and then Robert’s, and has Robert sign on a digital pad that he is using his green card claim on Alexia. Rosie makes sure to mention that Alexia should not be out on her own, and if she leaves the house with either of them, they must have their card with them in order to prove ownership.

Once that is done, Rosie says “Are you claiming her cousin Lucia, too?”

“Yes.” Jane says. “That’s the plan. Do we just go pick her up and bring her here?”

“That’s right.” Rosie goes on to explain “I’ll print out a claim slip for you, just fill in her information, and bring her back to the desk where you got tested, and give them the claim slip. They should be able to get her tested fairly quickly, and then once the results confirm she’s a red card, we will need to scan both of your cards, since the second claim requires both of you to have a green card. I’m assuming you are going to pick her up now?”

“Yes.” Robert says. “I think Alexia is anxious to get this over with.”

“Ok, good. I’ll just put that in the system, so they don’t send anyone to go pick her up before you get there. Normally after an auction or claim we would reprint the cards for the owners with their concubines’ ID numbers on them, but since you are coming right back, I will wait to do it until you have both claims in the system. In the meantime, if you are stopped by anyone official, just have them scan your ID, and it will show the claim.” Rosie says. “Any questions?”

“I don’t think so.” Jane says. “We’ll be coming right back anyway, so if we come up with any, we can always ask next time.”

As Robert and Jane lead the way to the car, Alexia follows behind, looking a bit stunned to realize she was someone’s property now.

“Robert, do you mind driving so we girls can talk?” Jane asks.

“Of course.” Robert responds.
